Wow! This was truly a great week getting to know, and growing with, my fourth grade class! One thing for sure, we love books!! The class was captivated with each and every book that we read in connection to our different subjects!
Last week, we learned about:
Math: We practiced rounding numbers to ten, hundreds and thousands; identified patterns in place value to one million, and practiced writing numbers in standard form, word form and expanded form.
Social Studies: Our Economics Unit this week. We learned about scarcity and how people must make choices when they produce or consume goods or services. There are many vocabulary terms to learn and understand, but we are taking it in chunks.
Writing Workshop: We are preparing for our upcoming personal narrative writing piece by generating lists of special people, places, and strong emotions. We read many stories and applied them to our story mountains.
Reading Workshop: We created realistic reading goals, discussed how to pick a “just right” book, and began our reading log.
* M-Step Scores: Arrived home with your child on Friday. Please see your email from Mrs. Reagan for more information.
* Homework: Read a minimum of 20 minutes every night. Remember to log minutes and pages on your reading log.
*Math Homework: Will begin this coming week. Please encourage your child to independently try their personal best and return it the following day to school.
*Jet’s Pizza Night: Thurs., Sept. 14 (A percentage of your purchase stays with us at Georgetown. Please state teacher name when placing your order.)
*Early Release Day: This Friday, Sept. 15. Dismissal, at 12:15pm.
*School Pictures will place Thurs., September 21.
*Walk-A-Thon: Major School Fundraiser: Friday, September 22 (info arrived home on Friday)
Finally, many students in our class have shared concern for their loved ones residing in Florida. The thoughts and hearts of our class family are with them all as they brave Hurricane Irma. Please know that I will do my best to support your child as they process and wait to hear that everyone is safe and sound, and will continue to keep normalcy for them at school.
Take care, and I’m looking forward to our first full five-day week together!
