Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!

Math: Unit 2 is underway, and we’ve been busy multiplying using arrays and area models. The class is quickly realizing how helpful it is to know our multiplication facts.  *Please offer your child the opportunity to access the Clever site (a link is located right here on our class blog under “For Students,” and “Technology for Kids”). Once your child logs onto Clever, they can access their Moby Max account and practice their Multiplication facts.  Thanks for encouraging them and please let me know if you need any help.

Social Studies: Our current unit of study is on Government. We have discussed why laws/rules are so important and analyzed what life would be like if we did not have them in our school, community or country. (Not a pleasant thought!) We are thankful that our forefathers had the foresight to develop the Constitution to provide us with rules and rights. We have learned that the Preamble is the introduction to the Constitution. We have worked hard to decode and learn what it says and means. Below is our class proudly singing the Preamble!

Writing Workshop: We have begun our Realistic Fiction unit in writing. We are understanding how to develop and create a fictional character and conflict, as well as the importance of a good lead.  We are excited to continue on our pieces!

Reading Workshop: Our latest book is “The Tiger Rising,” by Kate DiCamillo.  We are enjoying the feeling of “getting lost in a good book!” We are understanding how to become empathetic with the character and make predictions based off of what is happening in the story.

An Important Message from our Principal and the Main Office: Due to parking limitations, parties are open to parents that are volunteering to support the party. Party Volunteers: Make sure you are background checked. Keep younger siblings at home to allow for space in the classrooms. Volunteers can arrive 15 minutes before the party begins.

Important Reminders:

*Turkey Trot: This Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Eagle Stadium.  If you pre-registered, info and shirt will arrive home with your child soon. Late registrations can be done at the gate prior to the Trot at 4:30pm.  I look forward to cheering on our fourth grade runners!

*Picture Retake Day: This Thursday, Oct. 26.

*Fall Party: Our parent volunteers have been busy preparing for our party.  Your child may dress in costume (no blood, gore or weapons) after lunch on Tuesday, Oct. 31.  Please send it in a bag labeled with their name. Our party will take place from 2:15-3:15pm. This will include students and registered parent volunteers. (Please see message listed above).

*Parent Teacher Conferences: Appointment slips with your scheduled day and time will arrive home with your child on Monday, Oct. 23. Every effort has been made to accommodate your request. I look forward to meeting with you in a couple weeks!

*Early Release Day: We will dismiss at 12:15pm on Friday, Nov. 3. Please let your child know if you would like them to order a sack lunch that day.

*Homework: Read a minimum of 20 minutes every night.  Remember to log the time and pages on your reading log.

*Book-It Calendar: It’s almost the end of the month! Be sure to have all your reading listed and return it to school at the end of the month for a personal pan pizza coupon.  🙂

*Math Homework: Please continue to encourage your child to independently try their personal best and return it the following day to school.

*Hot Lunch Money: If your child orders hot lunch, please remember to send in their payment in a sealed envelope addressed “Hot Lunch” with your child’s name, teacher, and grade. This will ensure that payment is being applied to the correct student account.

I hope you’ve been able to enjoy this beautiful weekend weather!
