Have you and your child visited the Clever site?  You can find it right here on our Edublogs site! If you scroll down, you will see it located on the right hand side under the category titled “Technology for Kids,” and also under “For Students.”

It is a wonderful “one stop” location for accessing great sites like Moby Max and Study Island, as well as other fun learning apps like Nitro Type.

To log on, your child will need to enter in their school email address followed by “hpsstudents.net” and then enter their password. (They have learned this at school.)

I encourage 10 minutes of math facts practice each night on Moby Max. It will be a great educational tool over the holidays.

Please contact me if you have any questions about logging on.

Thanks so much! 🙂

Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!

Math: We have now begun Unit 3 and it is all about Division.  The class is eager and interested in how it is the inverse operation of multiplication and gaining confidence in their abilities! We are also learning how to apply use the Place Value Sections Method, Expanded Notation Method and Short Cut Method for division.  We are quickly realizing how important it is for us to know our basic math facts.

Social Studies: Thank you for your support and encouragement of your child as they prepare and for their upcoming test.  They are doing a great job of making connections and I am sure that they will do well!

Writing Workshop: We have now begun our newest unit all about Personal Essays.  We are reading quality examples and gaining an understanding of what important parts are included in an essay.

Reading Workshop:  Non-Fiction text is what we are diving into, and the class is excited about the variety of topics available to read! We are learning how to preview, predict and tap into our prior knowledge, as well as how to paraphrase what the writer is trying to tell us.

Important Information and Reminders:

*An Important Message from the Music Department: We are still missing lots of flashlights in each class.  If you could please remind your students to bring those in asap that would be great!  They are at a big disadvantage not having one to practice with.  I told them to ask neighbors, grandparents, friends, etc… to just borrow one if they can’t buy one.

*Holiday Music Program:  Our music program will take place on Thursday, December 14 at Fair Haven Church.  The program for students in grades 3-5 will begin at 7:30pm (grades K-2 will begin at 6:30pm).  For more information, please click on this link! See you Thursday!

*Holiday Party: We will celebrate before our Holiday Break with a movie, hot cocoa, and board games, on Friday, December 22, in the afternoon. Our volunteers have been notified. If your child chooses to bring in a board game on our party day, please make sure that it is labeled with their name. Thanks!

*Holiday Break:  There will be no school for students beginning Mon., Dec. 25 through Fri., Jan., 5.  Students will return to school on Monday, January 8.

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful snowy start to December!
