M-STEP Celebration!: ALL our Fourth Graders worked so hard to put forth their personal best on this important state-wide test. To celebrate their dedication and efforts, we celebrated with some free time on the playground and enjoyed a cool root beer float!
A Visit From Consumers Energy: We recently enjoyed a visit from Michelle, a Consumers Energy representative. She presented EmPOWERed Kids, a safety program by Consumers Energy. The fourth grade had an opportunity to interact on iPads and learn about many real life situations to be aware of in connection to electricity and ways we can stay safe at home and in our community. For more information, please see the booklet and information that arrived home with your child on Friday.
Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!
Math: Unit 8: Geometry – We recently completed Unit 8. The class learned the difference between a line, ray, angle and shape, as well as a lot about parallel and perpendicular lines, acute, obtuse and right angles, how to measure with a protractor, as well as quadrilaterals and the characteristics between different kinds! Wow! Unit 8 tests will arrive home soon.
Writing: Informational Writing – We have learned so much about what is included in an informational writing piece. I am excited to hear about the topics each student will share for their final independent piece. The class was encouraged to think about a topic they know a lot about so they can begin next week.
Social Studies: Geography – We are well underway with our unit, with a focus in fourth grade on the United States of America. We and gaining an understanding of our world and how to locate our country on the globe. The class is being exposed to lots of vocabulary such as hemisphere, equator, Prime Maridian, and recognizing the seven continents. We are excited to learn more about the regions of the U.S. and special characteristics about the states in those areas.
