Outstanding!: I’d like to take a moment to highlight a few important people from our classroom who have displayed characteristics of Be Nice, Work Hard and Learn Well, along with responsibility and a growth mindset attitude. A big thank you to Hayden, Ryan, Samson and Kylie for making a choice to be positive examples! You all are “Outstanding!”
Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!
Math: Unit 4: Equations and Word Problems – We began by learning about Situational and Solution Equations, as well as applying our knowledge of and use of Comparison Bars to help us with story problems. The children are learning how to locate key words and interpret the information to help determine if they are to add, subtract, multiply or divide. Some questions can be complex, so the homework sheets are a helpful way to practice and reinforce their learning.
Reading: Non-Fiction Text – We are currently reading non-fiction text and are learning how these types of books are set up, and how to develop skills and habits essential for informational reading.
Writing: Literary Essays – We are reading wonderful short stories like “The Marble Champ,” and “The Stray” and are learning how to read and think about what the big idea of the story is. This big idea then jump starts our learning and writing practice of a literary essay and its structure.
Science: We are beginning a new science curriculum in Hudsonville called, “Phenomenal Science.” A letter will be sent home with your child to explain a little bit about this new program. We have begun to discuss the steps we will take in the scientific process and are eager to dive into the lessons.
