Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!

Math: Unit 7: Fractions –  We recently completed Unit 7. The class really gained a good understanding of fractions! We are now well on our way with Unit 8, all about geometry. The class seems to really enjoy this new way of thinking and looking at math (and especially loves measuring angles with a protractor)!

Writing: Informational Writing – We have learned so much about what is included in an informational writing piece. I am excited to hear about the topics each student will share for their final independent piece. The class was encouraged to think about a topic they know a lot about so they can begin next week.

Science: We have been busy learning about the Scientific Method and were excited to apply and test the process through an owl pellet investigation. Our question was, “What do owls eat?” We were amazed by the bones we discovered and what kind of animals we were able to decode from our charts! A BIG “Thank you!” to the Parent Club for their support in funding the purchase of our owl pellets!

Important Information and Reminders:

*M-STEP:  Fourth graders will take the M-STEP this week, May 7-9 and also May 14-16.  During this time, please encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast and keep a routine bedtime. Just a reminder, please refrain from scheduling any appointments during these testing dates.

*Early Release Day: We will dismiss at 12:15pm on Friday, May 10. Please let your child know if you would like them to order a sack lunch that day.

*Book & Reading Log: Please remind your child to return their book & reading log EACH day to school.  They will have an opportunity to read during their Individualized Reading Time. I like to periodically touch base to listen to the children read and see if they have selected a “good fit” book.

*Homework: Reading: Read a minimum of 20 minutes every night.  Remember to log the time and pages on your reading log and return it to school each day. Math: 2 pages, twice a week.

I wish you a wonderful start to the month of May!
