Update/Reminders: Week of January 27, 2020

Outstanding!: I’d like to take a moment to highlight a few important people from our classroom who have displayed SOAR characteristics, along with responsibility, kindness and a growth mindset attitude.  A big thank you to Gianna, Eden, Landon, Maria, Lili, Ava and Everett for making a choice to be positive examples! You all are “Outstanding!”

Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!

Math: Unit 4: Equations and Word Problems –  We began by learning about Situational and Solution Equations, Order of Operations, as well as applying our knowledge of and use of Comparison Bars to help us with story problems.  The children are learning how to locate key words and interpret the information to help determine if they are to add, subtract, multiply or divide. Some questions can be complex, so the homework sheets are a helpful way to practice and reinforce their learning.

Reading: Non-Fiction Text – We have applied our knowledge of non-fiction text research about weather to help us create a slideshow to teach our classmates about what we have learned.

Social Studies: We have read a number of articles that have resonated with the class. They are leaning to apply their knowledge of personal essays to write a response and take a stand on their position. Students are including evidence to support their stand, and are also including Core Democratic Values to defend their point as well.
