Recycling: As fourth graders, we have the important responsibility to collect and deliver all of the paper that is collected at Georgetown for recycling. We discussed why this was a good cause and how we are making a difference in our community and world. I am so proud of this class for their professionalism and respectful ways that they conducted themselves throughout the halls of our school during our collection. If you have paper to be recycled at home and are in need of a place to take it, please feel free to deliver your paper, phonebooks, magazines and newspapers to our green Paper Gator, located in our school’s parking lot. Here are a few pictures of our class hard at work!

Constitution Day: This past Thursday, September 17, was Constitution Day. It was a great day for our class to acknowledge and connect to our school learning about this very famous and important document which was written to protect all citizens of the United States of America. We read a very interesting article that helped us to better understand the hard work, time, and most of all teamwork that went into writing it.

Here’s what we’ve been studying:

Math: We learned and practiced different adding methods of groups, regrouping, as well estimating and adding with mental math. We also have been subtracting from the thousands and applying our knowledge of ungrouping (borrowing).

Writing Workshop: We have begun to write our personal writing pieces. We are learning about sensory details and transitional words. Soon, we will learn how to slant our stories by telling the internal story in order to elaborate our stories all while thinking about these important strategies.

Reading Workshop: We have been practicing how to see the story we are reading in our mind. We also learned problem-solving strategies for what to do when we are confused by what we have just read, as well as when we come to words that we cannot pronounce or do not understand.
