Outstanding!: I’d like to take a moment to highlight a few important people from our classroom who have displayed characteristics of Be Nice, Work Hard and Learn Well, along with responsibility and a growth mindset attitude. A big thank you to Makenzie, Ty, Oliver, Elena, Rylee, Madison and Kathryn for making a choice to be positive examples! You all are “Outstanding!”
Holiday Virtual Music Program: Mrs. Bretz worked hard to creatively compile a program that we could still see, hear and enjoy. Here is our fourth grade class playing the tune, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” with their recorders. (To hear the entire Georgetown School performance, please click on this link.)
Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!
Math: Unit 4: Equations and Word Problems – We began by learning about Situational and Solution Equations, as well as applying our knowledge of and use of Comparison Bars to help us with story problems. The children are learning how to locate key words and interpret the information to help determine if they are to add, subtract, multiply or divide. Some questions can be complex, so the homework sheets are a helpful way to practice and reinforce their learning.
Reading: Non-Fiction Text – We are currently reading non-fiction text and are learning how these types of books are set up, and how to develop skills and habits essential for informational reading.
Writing: Personal Essays – We are digging in deep into big ideas and lessons learned to help inspire us in our writing. We are learning to recognize the basic structure of an essay, as well as understand how to incorporate certain elements, such as transitional phrases, including evidence, and the importance of restating our thesis.
