Outstandings! Our class is a pretty special class who has been demonstrating kind and responsible ways each and every day! As a class, we have received numerous outstanding certificates, and the children have taken great pride in this and in their teamwork. Over the past few weeks we have also had a few individual students who have been recognized for their personal positive efforts. Congratulations to Skyler, Raeah, Dean and Violet! Thank you for being such good examples!
Hudsonville Football Player: Christian is a player on our very own Hudsonville Football Team. He is also a former student of mine from years ago at Georgetown! He and his teammates are giving back in the community and Christian chose to be with our class once a week for the next few weeks to help out. The children had great questions for Christian and enjoyed hearing about his time at Georgetown as a student, as well as about being on the football team. Thank you, Christian!
Here’s what we’ve been studying:
Math: We have learned and practiced different adding methods of groups, regrouping, as well estimating and adding with mental math. We also have been subtracting from the thousands and applying our knowledge of ungrouping (borrowing). We will soon review for our upcoming Unit 1 test.
Social Studies: We’re continuing our geography studies and the class is interested and eager to learn the vocabulary and information in connection to where the US is located and what the land is like.
Writing Workshop: We have prepared our writing pieces and are learning about sensory details and transitional words. Soon, we will learn how to slant our stories by telling the internal story in order to elaborate our stories all while thinking about these important strategies.
Reading Workshop: We have been practicing how to see the story we are reading in our mind. We also learned problem-solving strategies for what to do when we are confused by what we have just read, as well as when we come to words that we cannot pronounce or do not understand.
