mathMath:  Information arrived home with your child this past week about Tiny Tumblers. We have also covered information about shapes, teen numbers using a base 10, as well as revisited break-apart sticks and number partners. We have also continued with our math mountains. The children are making connections that partners can be made with our tiny tumblers, as well as with our break-apart sticks.  There are so many different ways to make partners for a given number, and the children are finding it to be fun. :)

pencil bugWriting Workshop:  We completed our most recent unit on “How To” writings.  I am so pleased by how well the children have embraced and applied this writing.  They have so much to teach and share with one another!  From how to brush their teeth, to how to wash your hands, how to make a sandwich, how to play a sport, how to order hot lunch, the topics were endless!  We did our final writing this week, and it is always such a treat for them to be able to finally “fix and fancy” their work.

assessmentAssessments:  We have been busy completing final assessments in preparation for our Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to sharing your child’s progress with you!  :)

book faceMystery Reader:  Mrs. Sayers, Lily’s mom, made her daughter Lily very happy when she stepped into our classroom as the Mystery Reader.  She read a favorite book of Lily’s called, “Rainbow Fish Discovers the Deep Sea,” by Marcus Pfister.  The children love the character of the Rainbow Fish, so they were eager to listen to this new adventure.  They learned the heart of the story was not to be afraid to meet new people who are different than ourselves, because they just may be a new friend.  Thank you, Mrs. Sayers, for reading and sharing with us!
