Outstanding Students!: During the month of February, a number of students from our classroom were acknowledged with Outstanding certificates. Thank you to these students for SOAR’ing and representing our classroom in such a positive way!
Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!
Math: Unit 6: Fractions – The class has really embraced and enjoyed learning about how to work with fractions, creating equations with a sum or product, as well as converting them from improper fractions to mixed fractions. This is a shorter and faster moving unit! Thank you for encouraging your child with their take home practice. This additional opportunity to practice has provided a positive boost for all.
Reading: Historical fiction – The children are interested and engaged as we move into our book clubs. They are learning about how to stop and reflect on their reading, as well as how to be a part of a small group and dialogue about their reading. The boys and girls are doing a nice job to encourage participation of one another and how to politely take turns and acknowledge one another’s contributions.
Writing: Literary Essays – We are now transitioning from personal essays into literary essays. The class has a good grasp of the structure of an essay and how to incorporate evidence to support their thesis. We continue to develop our ability to edit and make corrections to our writing.
Science: The class was excited to transition from social studies to science. They are very interested in our unit titled, Built for Survival, and the subject about plants, their structures and its importance to the plant.
Important Information and Reminders:
*GO for the GOLD! March is Reading Month!: Two calendars arrived home with your child this past Friday. The red calendar shows the schedule of special themed dress up days, as well as themed snacks provided to all students by our PTC. (Thank you PTC!!)
