Our day consisted of a variety of stories read by each of the Kindergarten teachers followed by connecting activities. All creations were collected in a pocket folder that arrived home with your child on Thursday. It was so much fun to have a special day completely devoted to reading. I hope that you enjoyed your child’s memories of their day, along with their props for fun story retells! May this joy of reading continue for always!

Each child applied their non-fiction fact learning to their “All About” writing pieces. These writings were our final information writing pieces for this unit. During Spring Break, I will score their final writing piece and will send home their collection of Informational Writings, along with your child’s rubric scImage may be NSFW.

Mrs. VandenBerg, our school librarian, was so helpful to us during our unit, and shared some wonderful non-fiction books in connection to our reading and research. To say thank you, we paid her a visit with one of our “All About” informational writing pieces. She was so excited to see and hear about our learning and writing. She was a wonderful audience for us! Thank you, Mrs. VandenBerg, for sharing your books with us and for listening to each of us read our writing pieces. Image may be NSFW.

Our first was Mr. Scott Smith, our Director of Human Resources. He shared with us “Curious George Flies a Kite,” by Margret Rey, and “Curious George Gets a Medal,” by H.A. Rey. The stories brought us on many adventures through George’s continuous curiosity. Thank you, Mr. Smith for visiting us and reading to us as a Mystery Reader!

Our second special Hudsonville family member to visit was Dr. Nick Ceglarek, our Superintendent. The title of “doctor” got the kids thinking and they shared some great connections about the different kinds of doctors they knew. Dr. Ceglarek also fostered a great conversation about family traditions, the joy of reading in his family, and shared a new family favorite titled, “What Do You Do With An Idea?” by Koby Yamada. The story had a wonderful message about following your thoughts and ideas, and that you will do great things. It also took us on a visual adventure through its beautiful illustrations! Thank you, Dr. Ceglarek, for sharing this beautiful book and message with us. We are so glad that you could visit us as a Mystery Reader! Image may be NSFW.
