Me On the Map: We may be very small on this great big world, but it is so exciting to see that we are able to find EXACTLY where we are on this earth with the help of maps! It has been a fun week reading and exploring the many different kinds of maps that there are, from house maps, to maps of towns, states, countries, and even world maps. It was really neat to see how a globe looks as a map when unfolded and flat! Thank you for your helping your child with their bedroom maps and making the connection as to how and where to lay all of the 3-dimensional parts of our room into a 2-dimensional flat map form. This has been a fun lesson! I hope you enjoy their special keepsakes that came home with them.
Writing Workshop: We revisited our Narrative Writing (Small moments) unit, and the children still seem to amaze me with their stories and ability to zoom in and include basic development elements to their stories, such as a beginning, middle and an end. The children are making it look easy and I cannot wait to share them with you!
Mystery Readers: Henry was so surprised when his dad, Mr. Carlton, entered into our classroom as the Mystery Reader. Henry came to me with a hug and quietly said, “I did not know.” So very sweet!!
Mr. Carlton chose to bring a bedtime family favorite titled, “Mr. Tiger Goes Wild,” by Peter Brown. The children enjoyed it so much they asked to hear it a second time. During the second reading, they used their Eagle Eye to look for details that they did not notice the first time around, and boy are they an observant group of kids! They also especially enjoyed saying “roar” as part of the text. Thank you, Mr. Carlton, for sharing such a fun book and reminding us that it is good to be yourself.
