Clik here to view.It was such a pleasure to welcome two members of the Michigan Department of Education to Georgetown Elementary this week! Dr. Erika Bolig and Mr. Will Metz began their tour with us before visiting other Hudsonville Public schools. What an honor it was to share and showcase our Kindergartner writers as they demonstrated the process in writing their own informational writing piece about frogs. The children documented their own list of learned facts followed by incorporating their frog facts into their writing piece. They worked hard at sound spelling and knowledge of sentence structure. Thank you, Dr. Bolig and Mr. Metz, for visiting and celebrating Hudsonville and our Kindergarten writers!

Plants: We kicked off our plant unit, by beginning the process of planting bean seeds early the previous week and the children were very excited to see that many of our plants have begun to grow! The boys and girls are keeping a plant journal and are doing a great job in recording their observations in both words and illustrations.

Be sure to ask your Kindergartner! (water, air, food/soil and sun). To test our theory, and try to recognize the difference, we went on a nature walk. The children really understand the important differences and did a great job of distinguishing and logging their findings.

Clik here to view.Mystery Reader: Lucah was so happy and surprised to see his mom and dad, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, walk into our classroom this week! Together, they both took parts to read a special childhood book that Mrs. Jackson received when she was about Lucah’s age from her aunt, titled, “The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate The Wash,” by Trinka Hakes Noble. It was very neat to see that the author had signed Mrs. Jackson’s book, too! The children enjoyed the story very much and we are all hoping that we don’t have the same adventures next week on our class field trip! Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson for visiting us as a Mystery Reader duo!
