Turkey Trot: What a wonderful turnout of over 1,100 participants this year! It was exciting to see some of our Kindergarten friends take part in such a fun and healthy district wide activity! Ryan, Sophia, Brooklynn, Grace, Macy, and Kennedi were there to represent our class along with the Hudsonville turkey! Great job, kids and a special Congratulations to Brooklynn for coming in first place in the Kindergarten Girls groups ! I am very proud of you all!
Fall Parade and Party: Our Kindergartners were so excited to see one another dressed in costume on Wednesday! All four Kindergarten classes at Georgetown participated in a parade through the school and were welcomed by children in the upper grades down the hallway. It was a very fun experience for our Kindergartners, especially to see our 5th grade bus buddies. We then returned to our classroom for our fall party. Our parents did a fabulous job helping to foster a fun party which included a cool ghost craft, a mummy wrap and blowing game, as well as a Halloween Bingo game followed by a beautiful fall-ish spread of snacks! A great time was had by ALL! Thank you again to Mrs. Bier, Mrs. Purwin, Mrs. Pepper, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Baker, Mrs. VanderPloeg, Mrs. Floriana, Mrs. Shinabarger, Mrs. Deek-Hindeleh, Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Smies, Mrs. Voss, Mrs. Ender, and Mrs. Parm for all their help and donations! Thank you also to all the wonderful parents and grandparents who helped and joined in our festivities!
Science: We continued our unit on the 5 Senses this week and what a fun and insightful experience this has become! We tested our Sense of Taste to compare the difference of foods that were sour, salty, bitter and sweet. The expressions on the children’s faces were priceless!
Mr. Purwin, Macy’s dad, also paid us a special visit this week in connection to our 5 senses, and oh how it made Macy’s day to have her dad come! Mr. Purwin is a collision repair technician and he shared with us how important his five senses are to his job. He really helped us to focus in on our sense of touch and brought in many cool items. It was very neat to touch different grits of sandpaper. All the way from 2,000, which was very fine and almost soft, down to number 36 which was extremely rough! It was fun to touch and feel how rough, smooth, hard and soft items could be. Thank you, Mr. Purwin, for sharing a little about your work with us and help us make connections to our sense of touch!
Handwriting: We began Corner Start Letters this week, which included the uppercase letters of H, K, L, and U.
Assessments: We have learned many things in the first part of the school year together. It has been exciting to see the growth that has taken place during this short time together. I look forward to sharing your child’s assessments with you during our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences in another week.
