5th Grade Buddies Are The BEST!

5th Grade Buddies:  We love our 5th Grade Buddies, who are also our Bus Buddies!  We have a great class of 5th graders from Mrs. Ball’s class to help take care of us each day as we venture to the buses after school.   We especially enjoy getting together and having them read aloud to us.  We are so thankful for you!!

Literacy Centers
:  We are enjoying our lessons to grow as readers!  The children are especially excited to build their sight word base and find them in their reading, as well as incorporate them into their writing.  Mrs. Fabbro, our literacy parapro, and I are enjoying the chance to meet with the children in smaller groups throughout the week to build our understanding and strategies as readers.  Feel free to refer to our monthly calendars to see which popcorn words your child is learning each week.  Thanks for encouraging and practicing at home!

Math
:  We are building our understanding of the numbers 6-10.  We have discussed, practiced, drawn and pulled apart the value for each and are having fun while doing it.  The children are especially enjoying number stories about real life happenings and using math to figure out the answer.

Writers Workshop
: We are scientists!  Yes, with careful eyes, we looked for details to describe everyday objects.  We put these skills to the test by observing leaves from our playground and writing a mini-book that included detailed picture drawings of our leaves, along with specific facts we observed about our leaves.  We made our writing complete by giving it a cover page which included a title and our names as the author.  Image may be NSFW.

Mystery Reader
:  Ryan’s mom, Mrs. Floriana, was our Mystery Reader this week, and she shared with us a Halloween book titled, “Halloween Scare in Michigan,” by Eric James.  It was neat to hear familiar city names listed and lots of fun to listen for the parts that rhymed.  Thanks, Mrs. Floriana, for sharing such this cool Michigan book with us!
