seasonsNovember in Michigan:  Michigan always seems to surprise us when it comes to the weather, but last week was probably our final stint of somewhat mild temperatures and boy was it a warm welcome!  Literally!  Here is a picture of our friends enjoying the beautiful weather.

reading childReading Workshop:  We read and discussed what patterned books look and sound like.  We tried to create our own using a pattern in the beginning of our text about our classroom.  The children are very excited to try this new type of writing!

mathMath:  We began Unit #3 this week.  We discussed the term “partners,” and created math equations with both objects and people – a fun time for all.  The children are getting the hang of it. They are becoming more attentive as to whether the equation will be an addition or subtraction problem, and whether to add more or take away.  Information arrived home in your child’s blue folder this week as to how you can help your child practice at home.  Thank you!

letters abcHandwriting:  We have officially begun the lessons for our lowercase letters and learned the proper formation for the letters c, o, and s.  Each of these are created with the help of Magic C, our bunny helper who hides in a black top hat.  We love Magic C!  :)

book faceMystery Reader: Aiden was so happy to see his dad as our Mystery Reader this week!  Mr. VandenBrink did a great job keeping his visit a secret.  He had Aiden pick the book that he wanted to read for bedtime that night, and that was the book Mr. VandenBrink brought to school.  It was “Curious George and the Firefighters,” by Margret and H.A. Rey.  The class all know that Aiden wants to be a firefighter when he grows up, so it was actually the perfect choice.  Thank you, Mr. VandenBrink, for stopping by to visit and read to us!
