Clik here to view.SOAR: Our Hudsonville district has adopted a K-12 behavior matrix which stands for *BE SAFE, *OWN IT, *ACT RESPONSIBLY and *BE RESPECTFUL. These standards connect nicely with our Georgetown Elementary mission of BE NICE, WORK HARD, LEARN WELL. This week, we began our first connection through an interactive learning with the help of our wonderful bus drivers. All students in Grades K-5 had the opportunity to learn about and apply how to SOAR on the bus. We are a large school, but everyone did a fantastic job!

We discussed why this was a good cause and how we are making a difference in our community and world. I am so proud of this class for their professionalism and respectful ways that they conducted themselves throughout the halls of our school during our collection. If you have paper to be recycled at home and are in need of a place to take it, please feel free to deliver your paper, phonebooks, magazines and newspapers to our green Paper Gator, located in our school’s parking lot. Here are a few pictures of our class hard at work!

Last week, we learned about:
Math: We practiced rounding numbers to ten, hundreds and thousands; identified patterns in place value to one million, and practiced writing numbers in standard form, word form and expanded form.
Social Studies: What is a government and why do we have rules and laws? These are topics and questions we began to discuss this week. The class did a great job participating in this conversation with thoughtful and applicable responses. I am looking forward to more dialogue like this this year!
Writing Workshop: We are preparing for our upcoming personal narrative writing piece by generating lists of special people, places, and strong emotions. We are reading many example stories and are preparing to apply them to our upcoming lesson on story mountains.
Reading Workshop: We created realistic reading goals, discussed how to pick a “just right” book, and began our reading log.
