It was a pleasure to meet with you all during our Parent Teacher Conferences by way of Zoom. I enjoyed sharing about your child’s learning and life in our fourth grade classroom. I am so pleased by the great participation we had by our families! Thank you for all your support and for taking the time to visit!

Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!

Math: We completed our Unit 2 studies and final assessment just in time before our change to remote learning. The children learned and practiced multiple methods in multiplication (Place Values Sections Method, Expanded Notation Method, Algebraic Notation Method, and the Shortcut Method).  These have helped us to multiply 2-digit, 3-digit, and even 4-digit numbers!!

Writing Workshop: Due to the modified calendar and change to remote learning, we will continue and work to close our lessons on Realistic Fiction with review this coming week. We have learned and applied so much regarding what to think about and include in our narrative writing for both our Realistic Fiction and Personal Narrative writings. We will apply all that we know to create another piece and close out the unit with a final narrative piece to publish. I can’t wait to read them!

Reading Workshop:  We have enjoyed learning how to read non-fiction text, how to decipher the set-up, headings, and recognized different types of text features within this kind of reading. We are eager and ready to take our knowledge to the next step by researching a specific type of severe weather!

Important Information and Reminders:

*PE CARES: (Collecting And Receiving Essential Supplies): Thank you for your help in donating food for those in need this Thanksgiving. Your generosity was greatly appreciated!

* Nov. 30, 2020 – Asynchronous Learning: On this day, students will begin their online learning by accessing their assignments through our Google Classroom site.

*Dec. 1-4, 2020 – Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning: Students will receive their link to our class schedule with assignments (one slideshow for each individual day) on their Google Classroom site. Within the daily slideshow breakdown, your child will find the links to our morning and afternoon Zoom meetings, as well as the schedule and assignments for the day.

I completely know and understand that this is a new way to deliver and access our learning instruction, so thank you for your patience and understanding of both your child and myself. We are all learning along the way and we’ll get there one day at a time.

*Dec. 9, 2020: We hope for the opportunity to return to school on Wednesday, Dec. 9. We will look towards the district for guidance and an update in the coming days. Please be sure to watch the Georgetown Elementary blog and your email inbox for further information as it becomes available.
