Outstanding!: We have an awesome class filled with great kids! The Outstandings just continue to pour in for the group as a whole. In honor of the first 20 that our class received, the fourth graders voted on a Stuffed Animal Day. It was so nice to meet everyone’s special lovie and it made our day a lot of fun! 🙂

Outstanding Individuals: It makes my heart so happy to continually see our fourth grade students represent themselves in such respectful and responsible ways, both in class and around our school. I’d like to thank and celebrate Cole, Taylor, Ty, Dayne, Carson and Kate who SOAR’ed this past month and earned an Outstanding!

Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!

Math: Unit 4: Equations and Word Problems –  We completed our unit! The class gained great experience and practice in decoding word problems and organizing their information in the many multi-step word problems.  They applied their skills and tackled the problems well. We are now well on our way into Unit 6 – all about fractions and mixed numbers!

Writing: Literary Essays – We are reading wonderful short stories like “The Other Side,” “The Marble Champ,” and “The Stray.” We are learning how to read and think about what the big idea of the story is  to help us develop a thesis. This has helped us to jump start our writing practice of a literary essays and its structure.
