March is Reading Month:
It has been a fun month of reading wrapped around a Wild West theme! I love seeing the students excited to bring their reading calendars to school each week with pride of the number of minutes they have read. Image may be NSFW.

Each week, students have had the opportunity to earn a raffle ticket for a chance to win a new book!  A big thank you to our PTC for sponsoring the prize books, along with the fun weekly snacks each Wednesday! Congratulations to our very own Lily for being a reading raffle book winner!!! Image may be NSFW.

There was also an exciting school-wide western themed door decoration competition that took place and our fourth grade class won for the 4/5 hallway! The prize will be a pizza party and will take place after spring break on Friday, April 16! Our class is very excited and cannot wait!! Image may be NSFW.

Here’s what we’ve been studying in Fourth Grade!

Math: Unit 6: Fractions – The class did a great job on their unit test! I am pleased with their hard work and understanding and look forward to sending their tests home to you this week. We have since begun Unit 7, which compares fractions and will help us begin to understand decimals.

Reading: We just completed our Historical Fiction unit and enjoy our class read aloud titled, Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry, very much! The students also had an opportunity to be involved with a book club and have read an additional two books there as well. We have shared great conversations and enjoyed making connections between books and characters, finding commonalities and parallels during the the WWII time period.

Writing: We have completed our Literary Essay unit and I’m very proud of the ability the students are showing in how to reflect on stories and develop a big idea with evidence to support their thinking.

Important Information and Reminders:

*Health Video:  Please refer to email sent to parents earlier this month. We will view this on Thursday afternoon, April 1.

*Spring Break Vacation:  No school Friday, April 2 through Friday, April 9.  School resumes on Monday, April 12.

*Early Release Day: We will dismiss at 12:15pm on Friday, April 23. Please let your child know if you would like them to order a sack lunch that day.

*Book & Reading Log: Please remind your child to return their book & reading log EACH day to school.  They will have an opportunity to read during their Individualized Reading Time. I like to periodically touch base to listen to the children read and see if they have selected a “good fit” book.

*Homework: Reading: Read a minimum of 30 minutes every night.  Remember to log the time and pages on your reading log and return it to school each day. Math: 2 pages, twice a week.
