Friday Night Football: A big thank you to Christian, our HHS football player, who has been visiting our class for the last few Fridays and for the football tickets he delivered for each student in our class! We had many classmates attend the game Friday night! It was so sweet to see their excitement when they saw one another! Even though it rained, it did not put a damper on the night, as we all had fun creating a tunnel for the football players and watching them play!
Walk-A-Thon Winners: This years walk-a-thon was a success and the kids had a great time! There were many winners throughout the school, and a few were from our fourth grade class! Congratulations to Andrew, Lauren, Violet!! Many students in our class also received a Hudsonville water bottle, and many more are excitedly awaiting a sweatshirt and buff! Congratulations to all, and thank you to everyone for your support and fundraising help!
Here’s what we’ve been studying:
Math: Unit 2 is underway, and we’ve been busy multiplying using arrays and area models. The class is quickly realizing how helpful it is to know our multiplication facts. *Please offer your child the opportunity to access the Clever site (a link is located right here on our class blog under “For Students,” and “Technology for Kids”). Once your child logs onto Clever, they can access their Moby Max account and practice their Multiplication facts. Thanks for encouraging them and please let me know if you need any help.
Writing Workshop: We are beginning a new realistic fiction story. We are understanding the importance in the generating and planning stage , remembering to use personal experiences to help us with important details when creating a fictional character, story and conflict.
Reading Workshop: We just completed our read-aloud of “The Tiger Rising,” by Kate DiCamillo. The class LOVED it! We have learned so much about the importance of reading intensely and are now growing ideas about our characters. I loved the predictions, reflections and thoughtful discussions we shared during the course of this book.
* Warm clothing: The weather is definitely cooling down. Please be sure to label the tags of your child’s fall/winter outerwear with your last name. This will be helpful should they misplace it.
*No School: We will not have school on Monday, Oct. 25.
*Homework: Read a minimum of 20 minutes every night. Remember to log the time and pages on your reading log.
*Math Homework: Please continue to encourage your child to independently try their personal best and return it the following day to school.
*Picture Retake Day: Tuesday, Nov. 2. If having your child’s picture retaken, please be sure to return their original prints with them on the day of retakes. Thank you.
*Fall Party: Fri., Oct. 29. Costumes are welcome to be worn to school (No weapons, blood or gore) but please make sure your child can manage throughout the day while learning. (Please see email sent last week for specific details). The school wide Fall Parade around our school will take place at 3:00pm – Parents are welcome to attend.
*Parent/Teacher Conferences: Please see the email sent to parents with a preference survey.
*Early Release Day: We will dismiss at 12:15pm this Friday, Nov. 12.
Wishing you all a wonderful extended weekend!
