Turkey Trot: What a wonderful turnout of over 1,100 participants this year!  It was exciting to see some of our Kindergarten friends take part in such a fun and healthy district wide activity!  Braden, Matthew, Brecken, Anthony, Luke, Lily and Taelyn were there to represent our class along with the Hudsonville turkey!  Great job, kids!  I am very proud of you!

pumpkin costumeFall Parade and Party:  Our Kindergartners were so excited to see one another dressed in costume on Wednesday!  All four Kindergarten classes, plus the PreK class at Georgetown participated in a parade through the school and were welcomed by children in the upper grades down the hallway.  It was a very fun experience for our Kindergartners, especially to see our 5th grade bus buddies.  We then returned to our classroom for our fall party.  Our parents did a fabulous job helping to foster a fun party which included a cool spider craft, a mummy/ghost craft, along with 2 holiday games.  A great time was had by EVERYONE!  Thank you again to Mrs. Burri, Mrs. Haan, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Fumarolo, Mrs. Holland, Mrs. Wortman, Mrs. Zwier, Mrs. DeGroot, Mrs. Meyers, Ms. Uhlig, and Mrs. Krusniak for all their help and donations!  Thank you also to all the wonderful parents and grandparents who helped and joined in our festivities!

senses fiveScience: We continued our unit on the 5 Senses this week and what a fun and insightful experience this has become!  We tested our Sense of Taste to compare the difference of foods that were sour, salty, bitter and sweet.  The expressions on the children’s faces were priceless!   We also enjoyed another special visitor to our class to help us use and learn more about our sense of hearing.  Mrs. Bier, a Georgetown parent and Zeeland Band teacher, stopped by with a few instruments to put our hearing to the test!  She shared and played with us a flute, trumpet and snare drum.  All very different in their sounds!  We learned, listened, discussed about sounds that were low, high, soft, and loud.  We listened for patterns, and repeated a few.  We also noticed vibration and felt for it, too!  Thank you, Mrs. Bier, for sharing your time and helping us to understand more about our sense of hearing!

Assessments:  We have learned many things in the first part of the school year together.  It has been exciting to see the growth that has taken place during this short time together.  I look forward to sharing your child’s assessments with you during out upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences next week.

book faceMystery Reader:  Kolton had been wishing and hoping each week that his mom might be our Mystery Reader.  This week, Mrs. Haan, Kolton’s mom, happily surprised him and our class!  We had time to enjoy two stories that she brought, “Bark George,” by Jules Feiffer, and “Clifford’s First Halloween,” by Norman Bridwell.   Thank you, Mrs. Haan, for stopping by to read to us!
