The Three Little Pigs (Reading and Writing Workshop): The folktale themes continue this week with the help of the Three Little Pigs. Oh, how we enjoyed reading a variety of versions of this famous tale! We love to read, and we especially love to read and compare different surprise endings to the same story. We again bridged this tale to our non-fictional reading of Pigs. We collected many facts once again and applied our knowledge to another new informational writing piece. The children are getting the hang of applying their knowledge to their writing, and they are truly finding it enjoyable. Their pink folder with all things “pigs” arrived home on Friday. Take a look and ask them about it!
Math: We culminated Unit #4 this week and took our final assessment. I am eager to take a look at these and hope to send them home with your child soon.
St. Patricks Day: We enjoyed many learning activities centered around this green holiday, which including math, reading, writing, and a scavenger hunt. Fun was had by everyone!
Mystery Reader: Braden beamed when his mom came to visit this week as our special Mystery Reader! Ms. Wortman loves books as much as we do and found a pig book at the library (perfect with our theme this week!) to read aloud to us, called, “A Mudpie For Mother,” by Scott Beck. To our surprise, the class began to see and recognize many words in the text and before we knew it, the class was joining in and reading the book, too! Thank you, Ms. Wortman, for finding and sharing a book that we could also read.
Super Stars of the Week Were: Matthew, Lily, Anthony and Gabriel!
We wrapped up our favorite Super Star Stories show-and-tells with the books, “Fox in Socks,” by Dr. Seuss, “Peanut Butter & Cupcake!” by Terry Border, and “The Lost Crown of Sodor,” based on the Thomas and Friends Movie, “King of the Railway.” We began Round #5 of our Super Stars on Friday with the Mystery Clue Bag. The children are excited for the challenge to create clues to share with the class. Keep your eye open for the Mystery Clue Bag to come to your house! Can’t wait to read your clues – and remember, shhhh, keep it a surprise!!
Popcorn Words for the Week Were: “could,” “would,” “should”
