The Three Billy Goats Gruff: (Reading and Writing Workshop) This week brought us an interesting week that was all about goats. The children were sponges over the newest facts that they learned about goats and have become experts on the process of collecting their facts and selecting which ones they wanted to include in their informational “All About” books. I am SO impressed by my Kindergartners!! We also read many versions of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, but the Billy Goats Fluff, along with the Three Bully Goats were probably our two new favorites! The children are doing a great job of retelling the stories and breaking it down into our Shape Go Retell Map. What a great way to build comprehension!
Math: We began unit #5 that contained working with groups of 10’s and extra ones, as well as numbers and counting to 100. Writing numbers to 100 was exciting for the children, and was a very good challenge.
Mystery Reader: This month has been a wonderful compilation of celebrations in reading in honor of March is Reading month. We had a special treat this week when we welcomed 2 special Mystery Readers. This time, our Mystery Readers were a part of the Hudsonville Public School family!
Mrs. Decker is the Director of Special Education and as a mom of an upcoming Kindergartner, she was excited to visit and meet our class. Mrs. Decker shared one of her daughter’s favorite stories titled, “Froggy Goes To The Doctor,” by Jonathan London. Froggy is a favorite character for many of the boys and girls, and they enjoyed chiming in “Froggggyy!” throughout the story. Thank you, Mrs. Decker, for sharing a favorite book from your family with us!
Another special Mystery Reader to visit our classroom this week was Mrs. Akins, Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She LOVES to read and shared about how she learns from teachers and students, but I can say for a fact that we are the ones who learn so much for her!! Mrs. Akins shared a beautiful book titled, “Mrs. Spitzer’s Garden,” by Edith Pattou, which talks about how Mrs. Spitzer’s garden is actually her classroom of children and how wonderful it to nurture them and watch them grow. Mrs. Akins had us think about the special people in our lives who help us to grow. Thank you, Mrs. Akins, for nurturing our love for reading and paying us a visit as a Mystery Reader!
Super Stars for the Week Were: Lucah, Ben, Taelyn, Maria, and Toby!
