Blue Week: We had so much fun with the color blue this week! We read some great stories like “Little Blue Truck,” by Alice Schertle and the Caldecott Honor book, “Blueberries for Sal,” by Robert McCloskey, we enjoyed looking at, writing about, tasting and eating blueberries, and we had fun dressing as a class family in the color blue! Colors are beautiful and fun to find in the world!
Handwriting: Our newest numbers and poems this week were:
6= Stick and a hoop, do the tricks, that’s the way to make a six!
7= Across the sky and down from heaven, that’s the way to make a seven!
Math: We are using math manipulatives to help us with number order, as well as to understand how many in a given number. We are noticing that no matter how you arrange the manipulative pieces, it is always still that given number. We also had many great discussions about what is a circle and not a circle, and what makes a square and rectangle the same and different. Fun with sorting made our learning fun!
Reading Workshop: We have discussed how to look and love our books and the importance of how to carefully handle and turn pages, as well how to read pictures for details. We also practiced the two strategies for partner reading called “Turn and Talk” and “Turn and Tell” with our knee-to-knee/elbow-to-elbow partners. The kids are doing a great job!
Writing Workshop: We have learned how to write a real life moment in our lives by drawing a picture with details. The children also attempted to add labels to their pictures! They are doing a great job of trying to sound out words to label their drawings. I am so proud of them and their efforts! Everyone is trying with success!
Mystery Reader: This week, Paxton’s mom, Mr. Folkert, was our first parent Mystery Reader! She read to us a great story called, “Little Blue Truck Leads The Way,” by Alice Schertle. She used lots of fun voices and expressions which made the story very fun! We also had fun singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with Paxton’s little sister. Thank you, Mrs. Folkert, for visiting us as a Mystery Reader!
