Math: This week we began our lessons on sorting, and were aware of multiple ways to sort various items from shapes, sizes and colors, to insects and bugs. We also revisited the concept of equals versus not-equals. The children were very excited to receive math homework again following the break! Thanks for encouraging your child.
Handwriting: This week, we learned and practiced the formation of the lowercase letters “a, d, g and u.”
Writing Workshop: We had so much to share about our holiday break! Returning to our Small Moment style of narrative writing was the perfect avenue for us to share. The children are doing a fantastic job of trying to zoom in on a small moment. I am pleased with their attempts to stretch their sounds when writing their words, as well as using finger spacing between each word. I encourage the children to write for fun at home – you will be amazed by your young writer!
Mystery Reader: This week, we had a special guest from our Georgetown family visit as a Mystery Reader! Mrs. Speidel, our Speech and Language Pathologist, stopped by and surprised our class with the story of “The Missing Mitten Mystery,” by Steven Kellogg. The children enjoyed listening to her read the book as well as thinking about clues as to where the mitten might be. The ending made for an adorable surprise. Be sure to ask your child where they found it and what it represented. Thank you, Mrs. Speidel, for reading to us! We look forward to you returning to our class for some fun language and sound activities!
