three goats fluffThe Three Billy Goats Gruff:  (Reading and Writing Workshop) This week brought us an interesting week that was all about goats.  The children were sponges over the newest facts that they learned about goats and have become experts on the process of collecting their facts and selecting which ones they wanted to include in their informational “All About” books.  I am SO impressed by my Kindergartners!!  We also read many versions of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, but “The Three Billy Goats Fluff,” along with “The Three Bully Goats” were probably our two new favorites!  The children are doing a great job of retelling the stories and breaking it down into our Shape Go Retell Map.  What a great way to build comprehension! Here is a fun picture of a few of our students acting out the story through song with Mrs. Bohl’s Kindergarten class.

mathMath: We began unit #5 that contained working with groups of 10’s and extra ones, as well as numbers and counting to 100.  Writing numbers to 100 was exciting for the children, and was a very good challenge.

book faceMystery Reader: Our class was happy to meet Mr. Pepper, Claire’s dad for the first time, and Claire was over the moon to have him come!  Mr. Pepper shared the book, “The Gruffalo,” by Julia Donaldson, and some recognized the character from television.  The children quickly heard rhyming within the text and many commented with “eewww’s” when they heard that some of the Gruffalo’s favorite foods were owl ice cream, scrambled snake, The kids loved visualizing!!  Thank you, Mr. Pepper, for stopping by for a surprise visit this week!

star smilingSuper Stars for the Week:  This week we began another new exciting round for our Super Stars!  The children are learning how to strategize and make “smart guesses” as they attempt to estimate, as well as determine number order, more and less.  Our Super Stars challenged us this week!  Kendall brought in gel pens, Eli shared jelly beans and Ryan had Fruit Loops.  Keep a lookout for our Estimation Jar!
