read to partnerPajama Reading Day:  To culminate the hard work and fun we have had in the reading of both fiction and non-fiction books this month, we enjoyed a pajama reading celebration!  The kids absolutely loved being cozy in their pj’s! Our day consisted of a variety of stories read by each of the Kindergarten teachers followed by connecting activities.  All creations were collected in a pocket folder that arrived home with your child on Thursday. It was so much fun to have a special day completely devoted to reading.  I hope that you enjoyed your child’s memories of their day, along with their props for fun story retells! May this joy of reading continue for always!

Writing Workshop: Our weekly folktales help to jump start our interest in learning more about animals.  For wolfour final week, we chose to research and write about wolves.  Each child applied their non-fiction fact learning to their “All About” writing pieces.  These writings were our final information writing pieces for this unit.  During Spring Break, I will score their final writing piece and will send home their collection of Informational Writings, along with your child’s rubric score.  I am so very proud of the growth and ability they have developed as writers! Below are a few pictures of our class joining with Mrs. Bohl’s Kindergartners for a writing celebration.  It was fun to read and share our learned facts about wolves with our friends!

book faceMystery Reader:  As we culminated our March is Reading Month celebrations, our Kindergarten class, along with Mrs. Bohl’s Kindergarten class, enjoyed a surprise Mystery Reader visit by a special Hudsonville family member.  Dr. Nick Ceglarek, our Superintendent of Hudsonville Schools, grabbed the children’s interest when he shared about a famous football player with the New England Patriots named Malcolm Mitchell.  Malcolm Mitchell worked very hard to learn to read and credits that as his biggest achievement.  Malcolm Mitchell went on to write the children’s book, “The Magician’s Hat,” which encouraged books and using our imagination. The children enjoyed listening to Dr. Ceglarek read this book to our class and were excited to tell about their dreams of what they would like to be when they grow up.  Thank you, Dr. Ceglarek, for sharing this inspirational story and message with us.  We are so glad that you could visit us as a Mystery Reader! 🙂
