Our Wonderful World!

world globeMe On the Map:  We may be very small on this great big world, but it is so exciting to see that we are able to find EXACTLY where we are on this earth with the help of maps! It has been a fun week reading and exploring the many different kinds of maps that there are, from house maps, to maps of towns, states, countries, and even world maps.  It was really neat to see how a globe looks as a map when unfolded and flat!  Thank you for your helping your child with their bedroom maps and making the connection as to how and where to lay all of the 3-dimensional parts of our room into a 2-dimensional flat map form.  This has been a fun lesson!  I hope you enjoy their special keepsakes that came home with them.

pencil bugWriting Workshop: We revisited our Narrative Writing (Small moments) unit, and the children still seem to amaze me with their stories and ability to zoom in and include basic development elements to their stories, such as a beginning, middle and an end.  The children are making it look easy!  They really enjoyed sharing about their special spring break memories in their writings this week.

book faceMystery Readers: Kaden was so happy when his mom, Mr. Condon, entered into our classroom as the Mystery Reader!  Mrs. Condon thought about what might be a favorite of Kaden’s and she sure picked well!  Kaden was so happy for us to all hear “The Jalapeno Man,” by Debbie Leland, a special book he received from his uncle in Texas who actually is friends with the author of the book!  The class enjoyed finding connections to our past Gingerbread Man unit, as well as had fun making predictions about how the story might end.  Thank you Mrs. Condon for sharing this special book and helping us to make a text-to-text connection!
