Science: We are learning about living and non-living things, and what all living things must have in order to survive. Do you know what those things are? Be sure to ask your Kindergartner! (water, air, food/nutrients, habitat location and sun). To test our theory, and try to recognize the difference, we went on a nature walk. The children really understand the important differences and did a great job of distinguishing and logging their findings.
Plants: Our bean plants are now sprouting and excitement is in the air! We are logging our observations into our journal and writing about our findings. Each are growing at a different pace, but we realize that we as people are much the same. We are eager to see what we will find next week when we return from our weekend away!
Math: We will complete the end of our unit learning about measurement and weight. Information arrived home on Friday explaining these concepts and I encourage you to have fun with your child, experimenting at home. Our unit test will take place later this week.
Mystery Readers: Briana was so very happy to have her mom visit as a Mystery Reader this week! Mrs. VanderPloeg shared a book by a favorite author titled, “My Many Colored Days,” by Dr. Seuss. The class enjoyed anticipating the next color and had fun acting out and mimicking movements such as kicking like a horse and flapping like a bird.
Thank you, Mrs. VanderPloeg, for sharing this book and reminding us that we too are made up of many colors!
Super Stars of the Week: Our Estimation Jar activity ended this week, and it was a great activity for the children! They have become good at understanding how the size of the object will affect the amount that can fit in the same sized container. The children are also fantastic at quickly calculating how many items by using groups of tens and extra ones. Next week we will begin our final Super Star show and tell activity for the year.
