This past week, Baldwin Street Middle School 8th Graders, from Mrs. Hoey-Heath’s Leadership Class, paid a special visit to our Kindergarten classroom. They shared the joy of reading and our Kindergartners loved every minute of it! Thank you 8th graders, for being such wonderful leaders and role models for our littlest Hudsonville students to look up to!
Handwriting: This week we learned how to form the lower case letters of”p,” “r,” “n,” “m,”and “f” which we refer to as Diver Letters.
Writer’s Workshop: We completed our unit on Small Moments stories. The children worked hard to include a “beginning, middle and end” to their stories. We recently learned how our feelings can really make our stories interesting and enjoyed trying to figure out which sentence stopper (. ! ?) is the best fit at the end of our sentences. Keep a look out for our collection of work to come home soon.
Take Home Books: The children are SO excited to have this new homework and be able to show off their reading skills each Monday, Wednesday and Friday! Please help your child remember to return their book baggie EACH Monday, Wednesday and Friday so that they are consistent with their read aloud practice and are able to check out a new book each time to build their reading experiences. Please fill out the parent signature sheet so I know that your child is practicing at home. You are welcome to include any comments or observations that you feel may be helpful.
Math: Unit 3 Assessments are being graded and will arrive home with your child next week. I am very pleased with their comprehension and application. We are well on our way into Unit 4. The children are working with partners of 10, using a break apart stick, and they are doing well with this process. More partner work can be found in their math homework.
Mystery Reader: Keegan was so surprised to see his big brother, Kayden, a 6th grader at Baldwin Street Middle School, stop by as our Mystery Reader! Kayden read one of Keegan’s favorite books from home called, “Pete The Cat Plays Ball,” by James Dean. The class thought it was very cool to learn that Kayden had been a student of Mrs. Estefan’s many years ago. Thanks, Kayden, for coming back to Georgetown to visit and be very special Mystery Reader!
Super Stars For The Week Were: Sean, Kaden, Olivia, and Easton!
The stories our Super Stars shared with us this week were: “Katy and the Big Snow,” by Virginia Lee Burton (a book that belonged to Sean’s grandpa when he was a kid!), “Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?” by Nancy White Carlstrom (a book that his parents had when they were kids!), “Happy Birthday, Biscuit!” by Alyssa Satin Capucilli (Olivia could read the entire book to us all by herself!), and “A Halloween Scare for Easton,” by Eric James (a gift from Easton’s grandparents and Easton was in the story!). Thanks for sharing these special books with us!!
Popcorn Words for the Week: “with,” “big”
