100 Days of School: We had such an awesome day!!! Not only did we count by 1’s, 10’s and 5’s, but we also played number and movement games all revolving around 100. Also, the children did a GREAT job with their 100 collections! (Thank you parents for helping and encouraging your children with their homework!) The class and I loved seeing them all!! Here is a slideshow that I hope you will enjoy of our wonderful collections!
Handwriting: We have officially completed the last of the lowercase letters (f, q, x and z)! It is hard to believe that we have officially learned the proper formation for all of the uppercase and lowercase letters! Now the review and consistent application begins. Please encourage and help your child with proper formation when they are writing. From their first and last name, to homework, to writing letters to family members. The more they practice and apply their knowledge, the more naturally it will feel. Thank you for your continued support!
Writing Workshop: We have begun our newest unit called, “How To’s.” In these initial lessons, we discussed the procedure on “How To” make something like cookies or how to do something like order hot lunch, and the steps involved in each. The children wrote their How To’s with steps including what happened “First, Next, Then and Last.” I cannot express how exciting it was to see the children take off with their writing this week! It is amazing what Kindergartners are capable of!
Mystery Reader: Olivia was so very happy to see her mom as our surprise Mystery Reader this week! Mrs. Voss shared a new favorite of Olivia’s from the library titled, “Henry, The Dog With No Tail,” by Kate Feiffer. The story that made us laugh when Henry tried to search for a tail at places like the Tailor and from the Wagon Maker. We’ve been talking about how stories can sometime have a message or a lesson to teach. The Kindergartners impressed both Mrs. Voss and myself when they made the connection that the lesson to this story was “Be yourself and not do what others think you should do.” Thank you, Mrs. Voss, for sharing this wonderful book with us. We really enjoyed listening to you read to us!
Super Stars For The Week Were: Keegan, Grace, Tom, and Brooklynn!
Our Super Stars this week had four very different stores and each one was great! They were, “Pete The Cat: A Pet for Pete,” by James Dean, “My Very Own Fairy Tale,” by , “Side By Side,” by Rachel Bright, and “Adventures With Jonny: Let’s Go Fishing,” by Michael DiLorenzo. Thank you for sharing these with us!!
